We recommend signing up for training as soon as you submit your application to TFL. You only have 2 attempts at the topographical test, if you fail twice you will need to submit a new application to TFL and start the process again. |

The assessment will test all aspects of map reading skills: • Using indexes to identify points/locations • Using a map to identify directions and points/locations • To plan a route between two locations • To demonstrate knowledge of compass points within directional based questions |
Three simple reasons to undertake training1) Over 50% of people fail the Topographical test on the first attempt.
2) When you undertake your test on average you need to wait about 2 - 4 weeks for your test results from TFL, if you have failed you need to wait for TfL to book you another test which could take another 2-4 weeks for a date, then wait another 2-4 weeks for those test results. - Delaying your licence by at least 6-12 weeks, that is 6-12 weeks of potential lost income. 3) You only have 2 attempts, if you fail twice you will need to submit a new application to TFL and pay any further fees. This will delay you getting your licence by a considerable amount of time Give yourself the best possible chance of success by undertaking training with us. Computer or paper based tests?TFL reserve the right to conduct a paper based assessment.
(Note Since October 2018 only Computer based examinations have been carried out) It is highly unlikely you would be offered a paper based assessment. If you undertake a computer based test you will still have a copy of the Master Atlas with you during your examination which you will be expected to use, for example to use the index/reference pages and generally finding locations.
